About People & Pets photo album
Apple replaced People with People & Pets in Photos in iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. This modification lets you instantly see photos and videos of your cat or dog in the album like friends and relatives.
Apple Photos should automatically add pet photos to People & Pets. Simply enter your pet’s name. Starting now, Photos recognises the identified pet like it does people.
The People & Pets app lets you view your pets in fresh and old photos and videos.
Tips for iPhone Photos Pet Search
Photographs should find pet photographs for you, but you may also search. This helps begin the identification process when Photos may not detect all People & Pets album photos.
Tips for finding your pet’s images using images Search:
- Search by pet, cat, or dog, then use the recommendations to restrict the photographs.
- Find pet photos using caption keywords.
- Try date, place, season, or category keywords to locate pet images.
How to tag dogs in iPhone/iPad Photos
Your iPhone and iPad may tag cats and dogs in Photos after finding them yourself or in the People & Pets album. If Photos found a pet in the People & Pets album, the latter is best.
A snapshot or video
- Open a photo to name a pet.
- Tap the Info icon (i) or slide up from the bottom for information.
- Question marks should be next to the nameless face.
- Select Name This Pet from that icon.
- Name your pet, then tap Next and Finish.
The People & Pets album
- Select a pet in People & Pets to name it.
- Tap Add Name at the top and input or pick a name from the possibilities.
- Select Next, then Finish.
Mac Photos pet tagging
After finding images or in the People & Pets album, Mac users may name pets like iPhone and iPad users.
A snapshot or video
- Click View Show Face Names in the menu bar to name a pet in a photo.
- Click the “unnamed” area underneath the face and name it.
- Alternative: click the Info (i) button in the toolbar and the plus symbol in the pop-up window.
- Drag the circle over the photo’s face and input the name in the “Click to name” area.
In Pets & People album
Enter a pet’s name in the People & Pets album by clicking +Name on its photo.
Select the pet, click Add Name at the top, and input or choose a name from the possibilities. Click Next and Finish when done.
How to manage iPhone Photos People & Pets album
Photos automatically add new photos of your pet to the People & Pets album when you name them. You may take new images and videos.
The People & Pets album for Fluffy or Fido images lets you organize and do additional activities.
- Choose the primary photo for your pet’s album. Long-press or right-click a pet photo to choose Make Key Photo.
- Merge photo groups: Photos may add a named pet to the album. You may combine picture groupings here. On iPhone and iPad, hit Select on top right, tap each pet, and select Merge at bottom.
- Mac users should hold Command and right-click each pet to Merge X Pets.
- Correct mistaken pets: You may quickly edit a misidentified pet photo in an album. To delete the photo from the pet’s album, long-press or right-click it and choose This is Not [pet name].
- Review more pet photographs, add them to your favourites, or make a photo memory. For these tasks and more, select a pet in the album and press the three dots at the top (iPhone and iPad) or scroll to the bottom (Mac).
