Apple released macOS Ventura 13.4, allowing many users to try out features like Stage Manager, Continuity Camera, Handoff, Desk View, and more. However, as the name implies, the developer beta was restricted to developers owing to severe flaws.
Apple has now launched macOS Ventura 13.4 public beta 2, and if you want to try it, I’ve outlined the steps you’ll need to take to download and install it on your Mac. But first, check to see if your Mac is compatible with macOS 13.4 Ventura.

How to download the public beta version of macOS 13.4 VenturaÂ
Before downloading and installing the beta profile, make a backup of your device. This will keep your data secure if you decide to downgrade to macOS Monterey.
- Go to beta.apple.com.
- To enroll, click Sign up, or sign in using your Apple ID and password.
- Navigate to the macOS tab, then scroll down to the Enroll Your Mac area.
- Download the macOS public beta 2 Access Utility.
- Now click Allow to start the download.
- Open the Downloads folder, or the place where you downloaded the files.
- Double-click macOSPublicBetaAccessUtility.dmg.
- Again, double-click macOSPublicBetaAccessUtility.pkg to launch the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you have previously created a Time Machine backup, click OK → Continue.
- Click the Continue button again
- Clicking Agree indicates that you have read and accepted Apple’s software licensing agreement.
- Next, choose Install.
- After entering the password for your Mac, choose Install Software.
- Once the download is complete and the ‘installation was successful’ box appears, click Close.
- Now, a software update box will appear; select Upgrade Now.
The download will begin and may take a while, depending on your internet speed. Once done, apply the update.
To get the update screen, follow these steps: click the Apple logo, then System Preferences, and finally Software Update.
How to install macOS Ventura 13.4 public beta 2 on the Mac
- An installation window should appear automatically; click Continue.
- To accept the terms and conditions, simply click Agree.
- Next, click Agree again to confirm.
- Select the drive/partition where you want to install the beta and click Continue.
- Enter your Mac’s password, then click Unlock.
- If your Mac does not restart automatically, click Restart.
After your Mac reboots, the system may require you to enter your Apple ID and password.
Should you download the macOS Ventura 13.4 public beta 2?
Betas have the potential to cause problems. Apple status that it may have flaws and inconsistencies, and it may not function as smoothly as commercially available applications. Furthermore, it recommended that users download the beta to secondary devices or non-critical sectors.
However, the opportunity to test and discover new features consistently appeals to my nerdy side.
